happy birthday boy!

We had a really lovely day. Mom and Grandma came over and we had cake and ice cream, and Mom brought something that she forgot to put into Gavin's present on Saturday. Gavin opened the present from us - a Gazoobo shape sorter - and seemed to like it. Good for chewing on. He once again wanted nothing to do with cake. Or ice cream. Funny boy.

All yesterday and last night I couldn't stop thinking about what I was doing this time last year. My water broke (11:15 am)... at the hospital now (1:30 pm)... contractions get serious (5:30 pm) ... miserable (7:00 and 8:30 and 9:22 and...)... gotta push but can't (midnight)... push! push! push! (12:50 am)... it's a boy! (1:13 am). All day I was keenly aware of how not-pregnant I am. And how not-in-pain I am. And of course, how wonderfully blessed I am to have been oh-so-pregnant and in pain last year.

Truly amazing, all in one year. Such a little Angel!!!
Tuesday, I thought several times about how a year ago I told my supervisor that I would go down to the hospital after work, and he just looked at me and said "I don't think you will hold out that long, why don't you just take half a day and go?" So, I did!! At that point, he had a 4 month old and a 2 year old, so he knows about Grandma's.

First birthdays are special. I still remember one which featured a teddy bear cake, with a cup cake nose! You know who it was for, and whose first grab was for the nose!

I remember that day...Grandpa Alan and I were wondering and wondering. At that point, I think we had spoken to the two of you nearly every day wanting to know if a third had joined the party. Then on the 4th, we were unable to reach you. We called all day...left messages. "I know Allie has gone to the hosital!" I shrieked at Alan, "They wouldn't just suddenly decide to take a road trip at this point in her pregnancy!" Then the call came in the middle of the night from a happy, tired, exhilerated Jason.

Needless to say, we could not get back to sleep. I teared up with happiness at the thought of another precious angel in our lives. We snuggled together in bed and giggled and talked. Another baby boy. Life is good.

It's funny and so touching how everyone has such clear and special memories of that day. It wasn't just us who were affected that day :)
