One week

G or D?

Dermot is one week and a day old. He's such a wonderful baby, so much easier than Gavin was. Not that Gavin wasn't wonderful, but he was a much more challenging baby than Dermot is.... some of which I will chalk up to first time parent inexperience. All the trouble we had then is nonexistent this time around, from breastfeeding problems to bili lights to physical and emotional postpartum recovery to intensity levels -- all so different this time.

The birth was awesome. A simply incredible experience, different on so many levels than Gavin's. It's well worth every penny we spent on it. Among other things, it has made recovery much easier than it otherwise might have been. I will be posting the birth story soon. I have it written, but it is taking me some time to get back to it to fine tune it. There are some additional birth pictures on flickr, though, if you haven't seen them yet.

Dermot is an awesome nurser. I always hear mamas saying that their new baby was nursing like a pro and figured they were just saying that to sound upbeat and positive, just because my experience with Gavin was anything BUT easy. I can honestly say that it does happen sometimes. I've revised my assumptions and now believe that maybe those mamas are telling the truth.

Dermot is easy going and laid back, compared to... well, you know Gavin. (And those of you who don't know him in person, easy going and laid back are two adjectives that you would NOT use to describe him.)

Must go to bed now, tomorrow is Day 2 of the great Two Kids and One Mama Home Alone Together experiment. This mama needs her rest.
