Some mighty interesting conversations we're having in these parts of late. Yesterday morning we had this conversation:
Gavin: I want a cracker with peanut butter.
Me: OK.
G: Do we have peanut butter?
M: Yes we do.
G: Did Daddy take the peanut butter to work?
M: No, I don't think so. He doesn't usually take peanut butter to work.
G: But he took candy to work.
M: You're right... yes he did. But he didn't take peanut butter to work.
(Jason recently bought a big container of candy at Sam's to take to work.)
And then there's this one from Saturday night. We were going out for dinner. The restaurant, Bob Evan's, was across the intersection where we sat waiting for a red light.
Gavin: I want to go to that restaurant over there, the one with the B and the 3 on it.
Jason: That's Bob Evans!
G: No it's not!
J: It's not?
G: No! It's the restaurant!
J: Right, and those words say "Bob Evan's."
G: Noooooo, that word says "Restaurant."
J: What letter does rrrrrestaurant start with?
G: B and 3!
Not all of our conversations make that much sense, if you can call it that. For example, lately when I ask him a question he doesn't know what to say, he says "I'm just making a joke." Or he'll do something silly, like jump up and down and land on his knees, and exclaim afterward, "I just made a joke!" Makes me wonder what he thinks a joke is.
But then there are the endearing conversations, like this one. The mail was on the table and he started ripping open an envelope. I looked and saw it was junk, so I let him continue.
G: Do you want me to read this letter to you?
A: Sure!
G: It says, "Dear Mommy, I love you. The end." Did you like that story?
A: Very much.
G: Do you want to hear it again?
A: I'd love to!
G: "Dear Mommy, I love you. Dear Dermot, I love you. The end." Did you like that story?
A: I loved it! Thanks for reading to me.
Makes my heart all tingly and warm just remembering.
