vacation

We got back yesterday from a week in North Carolina visiting Jason's family. It was an exhausting trip but a fun one. We spent the first couple days in Greensboro with Dad and Julee, then went to Fayetteville to Mom's for a couple days, then to Wilmington where we met up with a friend of mine and spent a morning at the beach, then back to Fayetteville for dinner and on to Greensboro, where we stayed on Friday night. In all we logged well over 1400 miles! As always it was so wonderful to see everyone. Seeing them doesn't happen often enough.

Gavin handled the drive and the change in routine fairly well. In fact, he had two of his best nights ever while we were there. He slept eight - count 'em 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8! - hours in a row, and not only that but he did it two nights in a row!! We are seriously considering moving into that hotel permanently, as it seems to have held some wonderful magic for Gavin. Of course, now we're back to the usual, with wakings a-plenty each night. But ahhhhhh.... the eight hours..... bliss.

Naturally I have tons of pictures. I have tons of pictures going back ages. I know I've been really awful about updating here. I'm thinking of canning the whole journal/wwebsite thing. I just don't seem to be keeping up with it. Anyway, here are some pictures from vacation!

Gavin was fascinated by Grandpa's mower, but once it was turned on, he wasn't so fond of it and just wanted Mommy!

One cool dude.

Gavin and daddy on the beach. Gavin loved the beach part but wasn't so fond of the water after it knocked him over once.

There are tons more pictures but they're in albums. If you want to see them email me for access!

First Haircut

Before: First Haircut
Originally uploaded by moosemama.
Thursday evening we treated ourselves to dinner at BW3. Football season is upon us, and football season demands wings, it seems. After as much of Gavin climbing up and walking across the table to flirt with the people on the other side of the wall as we could tolerate, I took him outside to run around. He meandered his way up the strip mall and eventually I found myself looking in through the window at a kid's hair cutting store.

"Hmmm," I thought to myself. "Gavin's been in desperate need of a haircut forsix months. I wonder what they charge?" So we went in and I asked. The price was outrageous, but they had cute little airplanes and fire trucks in which the kids could sit. And a stylist was available to take him right then. So I said, "Great, let's do it!"

So we did. I called Jason to let him know where we were (and good thing I did, as he was confused when we were neither in the car nor in front of BW3). He showed up just as the first snips were happening. Gavin happily drove the airplane he was sitting in, and only after the first minute or so did he even seem to realize some stranger was touching his head.

He did really well, though it helped that the hair-cutter was awesome. She was so good (at managing not to cut herself or Gavin) that I figure it's well worth the price, at least for now.

And now it's done. My baby is truly a baby no more. Are there any other milestones I'm forgetting? He walks, he talks a little, he's had his first haircut... definitely not a baby anymore. Where'd my baby go?!
