November 25, 2006for you, babyWe had a nice Thanksgiving. Drove to Michigan Thursday - there and back same day - to Jason's aunt's house, and met his mom, sister, and grandmother there. Had a very nice time and enjoyed some incredible weather. It was a bit tough for Gavin, given he had been up since 5.30 am with no nap but the hour or so he slept in the car, amd necaise he wanted to touch everything in the not-kid-proofed house, but we managed. Yesterday we cooked our own turkey dinner (we love Thanksgiving leftovers!), and this afternoon my family came over and we had a dessert buffet with lots of yummy Thanksgivingish desserts. Yum. * * * * * * * * * We had our latest appointment with the midwives week before last. Everything is going great with the pregnancy - can't remember the numbers but blood pressure was low as usual, urine fine (I get to do my own urine dips how fun is that?!), weight was awful but at least not like last month. My fundal height measured at 35 weeks when I was just 30; last month I measured 2 weeks ahead. They had me readjust my position so I was laying flat instead of canted to the side and then I measured 33 weeks. Much better. They also checked my blood and my iron levels were, to quote them, "beautiful" (it was around 13.5 I think?) Oh and baby's heart rate was 140, which is where it has been nearly the entire pregnancy. Much different from Gavin, whose heartrate was always up around 160. Speaking of the heartrate, I love the fetoscope the midwives use to listen to the baby's heart. It doesn't allow us to hear (though I'm sure they would let us use it to listen if we wanted to) but it's neat watching them use it. I also love that they can so accurately palpate my belly and feel the position of the baby. At the time, baby was head down with his/her back on my right side. Since then, baby has moved from side to side, but thankfully is staying head down. The rest of the hour of our appointment we just sat around and gabbed, as we've gone through their checklist of things to talk about already. * * * * * * * * * The other night in the tub, Gavin was pretending to pour cups of tea - just pouring water from a bowl back into the tub, but moving around as if filling teacups. As he poured he was narrating, "Here's one for you Mommy, and one for me, and one for you Baby, and one for you Mommy, and one for you Baby." And so on. We had four or five rounds of tea and nearly every time he filled a "cup" for the baby. Tonight he was playing in the sink and again filled cups for the baby. Perhaps its a sign that he gets the idea that there will be a real, live person joining our lives in a couple months? Maybe, maybe not. But it's cute either way.

November 06, 2006to infinity ad infinitumRight now Gavin is running around the house, pushing the "button" on his chest that puts his wings out, then jumping in the air or leaping over things, shouting "To infinity and beyond!" with a box -- I mean, helmet -- on his head. He's been at it for at least 20 minutes and shows no sign of slowing.
